Senior ProgramsThe Parks & Recreation Department’s Senior Center has been in operation for the past 40 plus years. The center began with a few programs that included day trips and a summer picnic at a time when it became necessary to provide social, recreational & educational opportunities for older adults. As activities & services grew a Senior Program Coordinator was hired full time to develop, plan & organize more programs and activities and to be a liaison between the Director of Parks & Recreation and senior center members. Gradually with senior programs growing, baby boomers coming on board and offering a five-day week hot lunch program, health, fitness activities, senior clubs, bingo, cards, trips, computer classes, special events, and informational seminars it became necessary to hire another full time position to help run the center. In the fall of 2002 an Elderly Services Coordinator position was established. Since the opening of the Rocky Hill Senior Center we have been able to develop and expand more comprehensive programs of social, recreation and educational activities which include the opening of a “state of the art” Computer Lab that can accommodate class time & lab time.Newsletter |
